Our Recent Projects

Even though we've decided to not make this a busy project year, we still have found "little" projects to do,which is great for me and my desire for change. :) Here's what we've been doing:

In the kitchen - (okay, this wasn't as "little" a project as the other ones but still was done in a few days.)

We received a great breakfast nook from Dave's aunt and uncle but knew the fabric didn't go with our kitchen so we decided to recover it. Finally, after sitting for months in the garage, we recovered it with a fun oil cloth we found downtown at the garment district. Now we can just wipe off the spills. :)

Here's the kitchen before.

Here's the breakfast nook, with the old fabric.

And now the "new" breakfast nook.

In our entryway:
In our house, we don't wear our shoes. I think it's gross to wear shoes all over outside, stepping in who-knows-what, and then walking that into the house and all over the carpet. Yuck! (Especially thinking of little kids who chew/drool on everything, then drop it on the floor, just to put it back in their mouth again.) I decided to make a little sign so everyone would know to take off their shoes and I wouldn't have to tell them. :)

A few months ago, Danielle and I went to a flea market in Long Beach where I found the letter cards. It only took me a while to get inspiration for the complete project, ;)

Finally, just because...
I've been thinking of ways we could spend less, save more and be more green. One way we are doing that is by using cloth napkins. As I was going through my big trunk of fabric, I found a few napkins, already sewed in there. There was also a small stack of cut, but not sewn, napkins. I finished sewing the seams and then also cut and sewed more fabric to make more. I think I'm done now...I have 40+ napkins. :) Come eat with us! It's so fun having real napkins! It makes every meal feel special. (cheesy, I know) ;)

love it!! one day marcos and i will come study your house and take notes... i LOVE the remove the shoes idea. We got one of those cheapie signs in hawaii and put it on our door but nobody really looks at it. You've inspired me to change it up a little ;) and LOVE the "breakfast nook!"
