Elijah's "Prayers"

It's been over a year and a half now since we first started dealing with Elijah's sleep problems - his fear of being alone in his room, fear of the dark, visions of people (or the big, bad wolf) outside his window and then a man sitting on the chair in his room. We spent many nights and afternoons (during naps) sitting outside his bedroom so he would stay in bed and go to sleep.

Finally, after the vision of a man in his room and the terror we saw him exhibit, we spent time late at night praying over the entire house and anointing it with oil. Since that night, things have been different! Elijah has had peace and all fear is gone!!! Since then, we have also been reading scripture every night with him - scripture that God gave us when praying over the house/his room. Elijah now knows all those verses by heart and can recite them by himself (or along with Dave, as seen in the video). It's been so amazing to see God transform Elijah's sleep, our home, and show us how a little child can hide His Word in his heart.

(Now Natalie is starting to learn the verses too and loves to chime in!) We definitely recommend reading (the same) verses every night with your kid(s) so that they can be memorizing already at a young age! (We have them memorized now too, of course!)

(In case you couldn't understand everything, these are the verses they read...)

1. God does not give us a spirt of fear but of power, love, and self-control. (2 Tim. 1:7)

2. Where God's love is there is no fear because God's perfect love drives out fear. (1 John 4:18)

3. If God is for us, who can be against us? Can anyone separate us from the love Christ has for us? (No!) But in all these things we have full victory thru God who showed His love for us. (Rom. 8:31b, 35a, 37)

4. You can lie down without fear and enjoy good dreams. (Prov. 3:24)

5. I lay down and slept and woke up in safety for Jesus was watching over me. (Psa. 3:5)

6. I will lie down in peace and sleep for you, Jesus, will keep me safe. (Psa. 4:8)

Now we have also started adding more verses to this list so he can continue to memorize new verses.
